Curriculum Statement - Merlin Top Primary Academy
At Merlin Top we have a firm commitment to developing the whole child. Our curriculum aims to foster the physical, creative and emotional well-being of each child as well as their academic development and achievement.
We have developed an inspiring and motivating curriculum intended to maximise learning opportunities for all children from the Foundation Stage right up to Year 6.
Learning to Learn focuses on developing the skills children need in order to learn. We recognise that understanding "how" they learn is as important as "what" they learn. By encouraging use of the 4R's: Responsibility, Resilience, Reflectiveness and Respect, children are able to access the whole curriculum and are encouraged to become life-long learners.
Project Based Learning aims to develop more meaningful learning for our pupils, providing real challenges and working towards an end result. Children build up skills and competences linked to the new National Curriculum. They will then apply and use these skills when carrying out a project with a final outcome.
I-Challenge focuses on presenting the children with challenges, many of them outdoors, which encourage them to solve problems and work cooperatively. These challenges help children develop skills and provide experiences that are not covered by the traditional curriculum.
